School Street for Westlands Primary school

Traffic around Westlands Community Primary School can be a problem during drop-off and pick-up times. The police and parking enforcement officers have made regular trips to the school to encourage better parking, but unfortunately we see old habits returning when they're not present.

We are planning to approach Essex County Council to ask them to create a protected 'School Street' around the school. Please tell us if you support making school drop-off and pick-up times safer, better for the environment and more pleasant for everyone. Thank you.

What is a 'School Street'?

A School Street is a road outside a school where a temporary restriction on access to school traffic and through traffic is in place during drop-off and pick-up times. The street becomes a pedestrian and cycle only zone. Residents who live on a school street, those who need access for work and those with a blue badge are able to apply for an exemption to the restrictions.

More information about School Streets, what they are and how they have been implemented elsewhere, can be found here.
