Real support to end rough sleeping

homeless heroNo-one should have to sleep rough on the streets. Chelmsford has around 1000 homeless people (that's nearly 300 homeless households, up from 70 just five years ago) and 15-20 rough sleepers.

Long-term homeless people should go into independent homes not emergency shelters.
.
We need national action, such as more funding for councils for homelessness prevention, reinstating housing benefit for under-21s and reversing cuts to rent allowances.
We need local action too - our council working with all relevant agencies.
.
We need: more support for homelessness prevention; properly funded emergency accommodation; more investment in mental health services (NOT the recent cuts), and to support people into work. Then we can end rough sleeping.
.
Homeless people with terminal illnesses should be offered an automatic right to housing. See newspaper article and video of Lib Dem MP Ed Davey proposing this law change.

We the undersigned say it's time to end rough sleeping.
