Local track and trace boosts Chelmsford's Covid-19 fight
Essex was one of the first areas in England to introduce community testing for coronavirus. An effective test, trace and isolate system is essential to slow the spread of coronavirus. Along with a vaccine it is a step towards a more normal life. Lib Dems have called repeatedly for the Government to fix Test and Trace. Yet month after month figures for contact tracing showed the government's system was not working. To be effective tests need to be turned around in 24 hours, and financial support must be given so people can self-isolate when asked to.
Chelmsford Council's Deputy Leader, Lib Dem Marie Goldman (pictured) said, "People's lives and livelihoods are at stake. We are doing all we can to support local community testing. But the government are sticking by their broken Test and Trace model, and won't help people in need to isolate. Now schools are back, the government need to fix their mistakes to prevent cases rising again and risking further deaths and disruption."
