Jude Deakin - MayorAn overwhelming amount of entries have been received for Chelmsford's 2020 Christmas card competition, hosted by the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jude Deakin.

The Mayor called on Chelmsford residents of all ages to create a piece of artwork, or write a poem, inspired by her 2020 theme of 'family and wellbeing' to be used in her official Christmas card. Over 100 colourful and creative drawings, poems and photographs were submitted, highlighting some of the talent in Chelmsford and the winners have now been chosen.

Local businesses have been very generous in donating prizes for the competition and the winners are as follows:

  • Sofia - The winning drawing entry which will be printed on the front of the Mayor's Christmas card
  • Samantha - The winning photograph which will be be used in the Mayor's e-cards
  • Viola - The winning family poem which will be included in each card
  • Nil - The winning drawing to be included in the Mayor's 2020 Time Capsule

The Mayor of Chelmsford is delighted with the positive response to the competition: "This is the first year we have held a Christmas card competition and we're so pleased so many people have taken the time to share their creative entries with us. We're very grateful too for all the wonderful local businesses that sponsored the competition and supplied prizes.

"The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Linda Mascot, and I had a difficult task shortlisting each category of entries prior to my panel of jolly judges assisting with judging the final stage and the winners are wholly deserving of their prizes. Well done and a massive thank you to everyone that took part."

The judges included representatives from each of the Mayor's Charities - Mid & North East Essex Mind, Sanctus and Helping Hands Essex.

The Christmas cards are now being designed using the winning artwork and poetry and will be mailed out in early December.

With thanks to the competition sponsors for their donation of prizes: Jump Street Chelmsford, Channels Brasserie, The Bakehouse, Riverside Leisure Centre, Mace Playce, Tiptree Tearooms at Bond Street and Barleylands.
