County Cllr Mike MackroryEssex County Council this week turned down a bid from the opposition Party (Liberal Democrats) that would have helped reduce "bed blocking", supported more young people and addressed residents' concerns about dangerous pavements.

At the annual budget meeting on Tuesday 13th February, Conservative-run Essex County Council agreed to cut £59 million from the budget and raise council tax by 5%.

Lib Dem Leader Mike Mackrory attacked this, saying "The Conservative budget means you pay more to get less."

The Liberal Democrats proposed extra cash to

# reduce 'bed blocking'

# support youth services

# cut bus costs for young people

# put more into local highways projects and pavement repairs

# address fly tipping after they cut service at refuse centres

Commented Cllr Mackrory, "Sadly, the Conservative majority voted this down. They missed the chance to address the HUGE crisis in Health and Social Care. Nationally, Lib Dem MP Norman Lamb is pushing for Health and Social Care to link up, and locally we are pushing for this too."
