gritter truckWith a summer that looks like autumn, preparations for a possible winter with snow and ice are under way.

Do you belong to neighbourhood watch, residents association or some other local group? Have you identified local pathways which you are willing to clear of snow and put down grit during the bad weather to help the community?

Cllr. Jude Deakin has ordered some 20kg salt bags from the council, following a successful scheme last year. It is primarily to ensure any dangerous sloping pathways, not gritted by the council, are identified and gritted by volunteers to help local residents.

Contact Cllr Jude Deakin with details of your group and which areas you are willing to grit. Email

Arrangements can be made to get bags of salt to you, just as soon as they are available in late September/October.

Please note this salt is not for personal use and should not be used on private paths and driveways.
