Dial A Ride in Essex under threat from Conservatives at Essex County Council

Essex County Council today rejected a motion that would have protected Dial a Ride Community Transport. The Liberal Democrat Group proposed that the Council should commit to existing funding levels for at least one year and that future funding to the voluntary sector should be in place for three years at a time.

Councillor David Kendall (Brentwood South) said: "Dial A Ride provides a vital lifeline for many vulnerable residents. Such schemes across Essex do a brilliant job. I am very worried that the viability of these schemes will be under serious threat if the County Council withdraws its current financial support."

Councillor Stephen Robinson (Chelmsford North) added: "The Conservative amendment to provide "appropriate" levels of community transport does nothing to protect this vital service and threatens cuts to the budget next year."
