New waste and recycling collections in Chelmsford

April 12, 2012 11:06 AM

Chelmsford Council will improve its waste and recycling collections by collecting on four (longer) days a week instead of five. This means no delayed collections in weeks with a Bank Holiday Monday. Also, everyone will have recyclables and other waste collected on the same day, which is not the case for everyone at the moment.

Commented Cllr. Stephen Robinson, "This should improve the service to local residents and hopefully save money too. I am pleased that Chelmsford Council is copying an idea from Lib Dem-led Colchester council, even though Chelmsford Conservatives attacked the idea last year."

To launch the new service all households will soon be receiving a new service pack. This pack will contain:

  • A new collections calendar
  • A new 'Chelmsford Recycling Your Easy Guide'

The new collection calendars will replace the current 2011/12 calendars for both recycling collections and brown, black and food waste bins. Please throw your old calendars away in your black bin after 27 April 2012.

From 1 May 2012 there will also be no service disruptions following Monday Bank Holidays throughout the year, with the exception of Christmas and New Year, details of revised collection days following these holidays will be shown on the new calendars.

No collections will take place on Monday 30 April 2012 as we ready for our new service launch on Tuesday 1 May 2012.
