Cllr Mackrory on a bicycleChelmsford Council will look at providing more cycle access to Hylands Park during the V Festival, following a call from Lib Dem Cllr Simon Jones. Councillor Jones made his suggestion of dedicated cycle parking at the V Festival following his visit to the event in August.

Council officers fed his suggestion into the full event debrief meeting and the festival organisers support the idea to encourage cyclists to the event, most of whom will be local day visitors. They are now considering how they can take this forward for next year's event.

Cllr Jones said, "I am pleased that there have been positive moves on this. The main objective in asking the question is to cut emissions by reducing the number of vehicles travelling to the Festival.

Additional measures to encourage people to cycle there might include increasing the publicity about cycle routes in the area; considering whether temporary cycle ways could be designated; repair workshop facilities on site; and entry to a prize draw for those arriving by bicycle."
