Solar panels.Essex County Council has agreed to take forward a Liberal Democrat plan to allow councils to generate renewable energy which can be sold on to the National Grid. "The relaxation of controls by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Lib Dem Chris Huhne, gives Essex County Council the opportunity to be a community leader in the carbon reduction and renewable energy agenda", said Cllr David Kendall (Brentwood South).

The Council will now review its current performance with a report back in three months. "This is a big step forward for the Council" said Cllr Kendall, after receiving assurances from the Cabinet Member that the sale of renewable energy to the National Grid would be part of that review.
