More Lib Dem votes than Labour in Chelmsford

The Liberal Democrats have raced ahead of Labour across Chelmsford Borough in the European elections, by nearly 2000 votes. This follows last year's Borough elections when Lib Dems also outpolled Labour. Traditionally in European elections here Liberal Democrats are some way behind Labour.

Said Stephen Robinson, Parliamentary Spokesman for West Chelmsford Lib Dems, "In Chelmsford we fought this European election on the action of our existing MEPs, for instance having the best record on votes to protect the environment. The result this week reflects the general view that Labour is well past their best and that the Liberal Democrats are the effective challengers to the Conservatives in Chelmsford. Come the General Election the UK Independence Party will be much less of a factor."
