Stephen Robinson discusses his survey with a cyclist
A survey of cyclists in Chelmsford has found that almost half of those who responded have had a bike stolen. It was conducted by Stephen Robinson, who is bidding to be the town's MP. Stephen found that 45% respondents reported their bike had been stolen in the town.

Stephen said: "This finding is really bad news, not just for the cyclists involved, but for all of us who care about our town. More than half of respondents to our survey complained about the lack of secure parking facilities for bikes. Clearly the two things go hand in hand.
"If there were better and more secure facilities for bikes and cyclists, there are likely to be less incidents of bike theft."
Almost all respondents to the survey said the state of the roads and paths is a safety hazard for cyclists.
Mr Robinson added: "Potholes, poor road surfaces and lack of lighting were some of the factors which cyclists pointed to as safety hazards for bike riding.
"As a regular cyclist myself, I am acutely conscious that good riding conditions are paramount in encouraging more people, and especially children and young people, to cycle."
