Liberal Democrats are celebrating winning all five county council seats wholly in the Chelmsford parliamentary constituency in the local elections held on 4th June. Councillors Tom Smith-Hughes, Mike Mackrory and Maureen Miller were re-elected, and Jude Deakin and Margaret Hutchon were elected to the county council for the first time.
Commented Stephen Robinson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Chelmsford, "In the face of the most unpopular Government in living memory, the Conservatives in Chelmsford have won their lowest share of the council vote in 10 years. This is a massive endorsement of the track record of the hard-working Chelmsford Lib Dem team and sets us up to win Chelmsford at the coming General Election."
In the Chelmsford constituency, Lib Dems won 12,505 votes to the Conservatives' 10,987.
Across Chelmsford Borough Labour slumped to fourth place; 69 votes fewer and they would have been fifth.
