Trevor Nunn, leader of the local Lib Dem recruitment drives, and Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson accept the Regional Membership Award from Liberal Democrat Party President Simon Hughes MP
Chelmsford Liberal Democrats' campaigning success has been recognised by the party at a regional level, as they picked up an award for Membership Development at the Liberal Democrats' East of England Liberal Democrat Conference. The local party in Chelmsford have increased their membership by around 20% since the start of the year, thanks to regular recruiting sessions.
Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson said, "It is fantastic that our efforts in Chelmsford have been recognised by the party. Having taken the last Labour-held Council seats in May 2007, won two more Council seats in by-elections from the Conservatives later in the year, and had Nick Clegg come down to visit, the local party here in Chelmsford is going from strength to strength.
"Unlike the other parties, the Liberal Democrats are a 'bottom-up' organisation, who believe in community politics. We are the only party talking about real solutions to the issues that matter to people, such as cutting income tax for hard-pressed families to ease the pressure during the credit crunch".
