Broomfield candidate Malcolm Taylor and the Lib Dems have launched their plan to Save the Post Office network.
1. Keep Post Office Ltd in the public sector but split it away from the Royal Mail.
2. Raise £2 billion from the sale of a minority of shares in Royal Mail and invest this money in the Post Office network, to enable it to grow.
3. Axe the red tape which stops branches trying out new business opportunities.
Malcolm says, "Only the Liberal Democrats have a policy that will provide the essential investment for the Post Office network. All that the other parties can offer is crocodile tears."
Gordon Brown's Labour government is pressing ahead with plans to close 2500 more post offices. The Lib Dems oppose that absolutely, and helped the one on Broomfield Parade to re-open. The Lib Dems also say "No" to moving the town centre post office into WH Smith.
