Lib Dem President Simon Hughes MP congratulates David Whiteing on his selection as candidate

There is to be a Borough Council by-election on November 11th for the Danbury, Little Baddow & Sandon seat, following the death of Cllr. Maurice Hurrell. Our Lib Dem candidate is a local resident, David Whiteing, referred to by some as 'Mr. Danbury'. David is fighting on three fronts: To inject some sense into the traffic system through the village, to fight inappropriate developments that threaten green space, and to fight for increased re-cycling to lessen the chances of a large waste plant at Sandon.

He says, "Traffic through Danbury, Little Baddow and Sandon is often at a near stand-still. The Conservatives are closing the road to upgrade it to take even more traffic! And they are doing a traffic survey while the road is closed! I believe the growing traffic out of Maldon should be fed to the A12 at Hatfield Peverel. We were promised this solution would be looked at, now the Conservatives on the Council say no."

He went on, "I pledge to fight these short-sighted attitudes, and will do what I can to ease the plight of embattled villagers."

On developments, he said, "Because the Conservative Council has left us with no defence against them, developers are planning to move onto the green fields by Runsell Green. Many hundreds of houses are proposed for this green and pleasant corner, and no neighbourhood is now safe from development. I am determined that new plans are drawn up which will limit development to sustainable communities that can be expanded to deal with the roads, schools, utilities and amenities that major development demands."

He also says, "We create too much waste. Landfill sites are filling up, and, though our opposition has forced the Conservative Council to back off the idea of incineration, we are still faced with large waste plants as close as Sandon. The answer is to get serious about recycling- not the extravagant and ineffective stabs the Tory Council is doing, but a sustained programme designed to boost recycling targets".

You can e-mail me on: DJWhiteing@AOL.com if I can help to clarify any information on these initiatives. And if you would like a lift to the polling station on November 11th, please ring 01245 223818.
