Chelmsford Lib Dems Andrew Sosin, Ian Gale, John Hunnable, Keith Francis and John Mountain at the Leicester Lib Dem HQ
Chelmsford Lib Dems helped to overturn a massive 13,000+ Labour majority into a humiliating Labour defeat by Lib Dems in the Leicester by-election. At the same time, the Labour majority in their stronghold Birmingham seat was slashed to 460.
As usual Chelmsford Lib Dems did their bit, several teams of workers going up to help. Said Ian Gale, one of our members who was there several times " It was clear from the start that we had a good chance in Leicester, with a total vindication of our clear opposition to the Iraq war and our positive stance on Europe."
Total votes cast in Leicester South & Birmingham Hodge Hill 15/7/04
Lib Dems 17,265
Labour 16,077
Tory 8, 839
Truly dreadful results for both Labour & Conservatives
